Plagiarism

The BBC is about to publish a survey among Britain's Universities that reports a distressing increase in the frequency of plagiarism.

A student interviewed today (a trainee criminologist, no less) said that she had found herself short of time and took a short cut. Knowing it was wrong, she found what she was looking for from among data downloaded earlier from the internet. She simply used the 'cut and paste' facility to incorporate it in her essay, without attribution. [Source 'The World at One', Radio 4, 16/07/03. Sorry; no links, yet. but it’ll be big news tomorrow.]

Does this remind you of anything? The government's part-plagiarised dodgy dossier, perhaps?
