The New York Times's egg on face day

The New York Times has confessed that one of its reporters had been making up stories for years. If you can be bothered, you can read the whole (free but irritatingly complex subscription) article here. The (free) Grauniad story is here. This is how the NYT's front-page article put it yesterday
A staff reporter for The New York Times committed frequent acts of journalistic fraud... The reporter, Jayson Blair, 27, misled readers and Times colleagues with dispatches that purported to be from Maryland, Texas and other states, when often he was far away, in New York. He fabricated comments. He concocted scenes. He lifted material from other newspapers and wire services. He selected details from photographs to create the impression he had been somewhere or seen someone, when he had not.
Now, Myfanwy Trellis, this may cause you to become suspicious of some of the things to be found in Josh's Joshings. I would quite understand if your faith in my scrupulous honesty were to be slightly shaken. However, I think I can put your mind at rest: I don't do porkies.

Besides, my name isn't Blair.
