No more mandatory strangulation for blokes.

Matthew Thompson, a Stockport man, has won his sex discrimination case at an industrial tribunal. He objected to the mandatory wearing of a tight collar and tie at work (see 2nd March). I had feared that he would lose and the cause of common sense would be set back many years. Matthew, I salute you again.

Matthew is a backroom boy who does not come into contact with "customers". But the same argument applies to frontroom people, too: tight necks are for masochists and dress regulations involving tight necks emanate from sadists.

OK blokes, throw your cervical constraints away. There are some lovely frills to be had to go with the kilt...
