Famous words

A British agglomeration of some sort has just voted a line from The Italian Job as the best/most memorable one liner in film history. Never mind "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" (Gone with the Wind), the panel voted for something quintessentially English.

This group of iconoclasts rated: "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" as the absolute dog's bollocks. This riveting statement was made by Michael Caine's character in the film to an unknown actor playing the part of an explosives expert who demolished a van instead of blowing the doors off as required.

What gives the line added 'piquancy' is the knowledge that this actor was having a relationship with the well-known, busty, blonde British actress: Diana Dors.

Not many people know that.
