So much for new age, then

In various guises, this piece of news has been widely covered, without comment
The Vatican is to urge Catholics to resist experimenting in cranky "alternative" lifestyles, in an attempt to prevent its flock being led astray by the growing popularity of New Age spiritualism.
You can read more of the story here. One extract is worthy of comment:
Cardinal Poupard, the Vatican's minister of culture, has warned that the phenomenon, based on "weak thinking", is drawing Catholics from the path.
While holding no brief for new age nonsense, I have to draw attention to the Catholic Church's record on "weak thinking": Gallileo, Evolution, Birth Control, Idolatory... Need I go on?
