Jack Straw and the weapons inspectors

Yesterday, interviewed on the BBC's 'Today' programme, Jack Straw foolishly said that the weapons inspectors had been ejected from Iraq in 1998. John Humphrys, interviewing him, pointed out that the inspectors had been withdrawn, as I have been insisting for some months. More details here.

I have also been waiting for an interviewer to ask if this inexactitude was a mistake or a lie. Straw's blustering amounted to the suggestion that, if it were an employment case, the pressure on the weapons inspectors would have amounted to constructive dismissal. Still, it gives us the answer: Jack Straw is a liar, not an idiot.
