Chalk, cheese and cats

Today, the Guardian-ICM poll reports a big rise in support for military action against Iraq, post-Bali.

No evidence for the involvement of Saddam Hussein, newly re-'elected' with 100% of the vote, has been adduced to suggest his direct involvement in terrorism against the West. The justification, such as it is, sounds absurd in the mouths of our politicians. 'He might help terrorists in the future,' is the essence of the argument. Well, so 'might' my cat.

The ability of the public to make such tenuous links as that between Iraq and Bali is well known and highly regrettable. I wonder if the extra 10% of hawks are the same people that believe in astrology, the veracity of 'The X-Files', and Father Christmas.
