The best city

Apparently, the Economist Intelligence Unit has published a list of the best and worst cities in the World. I read in the Melbourne Age that Melbourne is number one. Canadian papers also tell us that Vancouver is number one. Joint firsts, then. I’m off to Melbourne at the end of November. Am I not the lucky one?

The criteria used are explained quite well in The Age article.

The list can be seen in full on this CNN page. While I would agree with a lot of the list, there are some notable absentees. My own personal list would put Oxford (missing) first, very closely followed by Adelaide (eighth on EIU list, together with Sydney, Brisbane, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Oslo, and Montreal).

London, by the way, was forty-fourth and Manchester fiftieth. Among the 130 cities listed (Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea is 130th), there is no room for Birmingham, Glasgow and, most shamefully, Edinburgh.
