Bridget Jones's Diary

According to today's Daily Telegraph, the Con Party is using the character Bridget Jones to support it politically. David Willetts has associated Bridget's search for marriage as embracing Con values. The article begins
The Conservatives used Bridget Jones to put support for marriage at the heart of their policies for tackling the breakdown of society.
However, the BBC's 'Today' programme reports Helen Fielding, the creator of Bridget Jones as saying 'Bloody cheek!'

The Comatose Party's position has an interesting corollary. For example, David Willetts himself could point out his personal relationship to Zaphod Beeblebrox.

[ For the benefit of Con readers, without Willetts's towering intellect - he was once memorably described, in awe, as being so intelligent that he had two brains - Zaphod Beeblebrox is one of Douglas Adams's (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) creations: a man with two heads.
